Έμεινε στην ιστορία ως «ο Μιχάλης ο κουτάλας» όταν τη δεκαετία του ’60 στην παραλιακή λεωφόρο Αθηνών – Σουνίου στο ύψος της Βάρης, με την τεράστια κουτάλα, που θύμιζε το ξύλο που ξεφουρνίζουν το ψωμί, εξυπηρετούσε τους πελάτες του. Μάλιστα, είχε φροντίσει να κατοχυρώσει και εμπορικά την πατέντα του, με δίπλωμα ευρεσιτεχνίας... Η κούραση και η ζέστη, πηγές έμπνευσης Το περίπτερο τότε, είχε χαρακτήρα πολυκαταστήματος για τη γειτονιά. Δούλευε 12-14 ώρες την ημέρα, χωρίς διακοπές, ούτε για Πάσχα και Χριστούγεννα. Δούλευε ασταμάτητα το καλοκαίρι. Ο δαιμόνιος περιπτεράς έβγαινε συνέχεια από το κουβούκλιο για να εξυπηρετήσει τους πελάτες. Έτσι, σκέφτηκε την κουτάλα για να γλιτώνει την ταλαιπωρία. Αμέσως το νέο εργαλείο έκανε θραύση και ανέβασε το τζίρο του περιπτέρου, γι’ αυτό και έσπευσε να κατοχυρώσει την ευρεσιτεχνία του. Το περίπτερο στεκόταν αγέρωχο πάνω στην παραλιακή, λίγο μετά το βενζινάδικο που υπήρχε στο σημείο που ενώνονται η Ποσειδώνος με τη Βουλιαγμένης. Σταματούσαν τα αυτοκίνητα μπροστά του και αμέσως εμφανιζόταν η περιβόητη κουτάλα. Ο συνοδηγός έδινε την παραγγελία, ο περιπτεράς έβαζε τα πράγματα μέσα στην κουτάλα, από τσιγάρα και μπισκότα, μέχρι σοκολάτες, τσίχλες, χαρτομάντηλα, πατατάκια, νερά, αναψυκτικά, σταυρόλεξα. Ο πελάτης άφηνε τα χρήματα στην κουτάλα, η οποία επέστρεφε με τα προϊόντα και τα ρέστα. Ουρές αυτοκινήτων για την…κουτάλα Στις δεκαετίες ’80 και ’90, ο Κουτάλας είχε γίνει αξιοθέατο. Δεν υπήρχε κάτοικος των Νοτίων προαστίων αλλά και επισκέπτης της παραλιακής, που να μην περνούσε από κει. Ουρές τα αυτοκίνητα για να εξυπηρετηθούν. Μπορεί η ξύλινη η κουτάλα να μετατράπηκε σε μεταλλικό μακρύ εξάρτημα σαν φτυάρι με δαγκάνα, αλλά η διαδικασία παρέμεινε η ίδια. Απλά θα τον ρωτάτε επίμονα να επιτεύχθηκε ο στόχος που τέθηκε στην αρχή καθενός από τους πολέμους αυτούς: Στη Γάζα, ο διακηρυγμένος στόχος ήταν η καταστροφή της Χαμάς και ο ουσιαστικός η εκδίωξη των Παλαιστίνιων. Στο Ιράν, ο διακηρυγμένος σκοπός ήταν να εξασφαλιστεί πως αυτό δε θα έχει ποτέ πυρηνικά και μετά τον περσινό Πόλεμο των 12 Ημερών να μην έχει και βαλλιστικούς πυραύλους. Ο ουσιαστικός σκοπός ήταν να πέσει η Κυβέρνηση του Ιράν. Δεν επιτεύθηκε κανένα από τα τρία. Φέιλ. Πολύ δυνατό φέιλ. Και για όλα αυτά σκοτώθηκαν και σακατατεύτηκαν αρκετές χιλιάδες Ισραηλινών, χαντακώθηκε η ισραηλινή οικονομία, δημιουργήθηκε άσβεστο επιπλέον μίσος με όλους τους γείτονες του Ισραήλ και, κυριότερα όλων, φορτώθηκαν οι Ισραηλινοί μία γενοκτονία και τέτοιο διεθνές μίσος, που Ισραηλινοί τουρίστες θα τρώνε ροχάλες για δεκαετίες από τώρα, ακόμη και από απομονωμένους ιθαγενείς του Αμαζονίου και της Νέας Γουινέας. Έπος. Τζίνιους. Απλά τζίνιους. ΤΑΧΟ ΠΑΡΙ
Νεόπλουτος, αυτός ο καρκίνος Νίκος Μαρκάτος - Πρωην Πρυτανης ΕΜΠ Δεν θα αλλαζα ουτε μια τελεια. "Κάποτε πηγαίναμε για μπάνιο στη Γλυφάδα, στη Βούλα, στη Βουλιαγμένη ή στο Καβούρι. Τώρα δεν επιτρέπεται πια να το λέμε έτσι. Είναι πολύ απλό. Πολύ παλιό. Πολύ φτηνό. Τώρα πηγαίνουμε στην «Αθηναϊκή Ριβιέρα». Διότι στην Ελλάδα του 21ου αιώνα δεν αρκεί να έχεις θάλασσα. Πρέπει η θάλασσα να έχει brand name. Δεν αρκεί να έχεις διαμέρισμα. Πρέπει να έχεις residence. Και φυσικά δεν αρκεί να έχεις μια πολυκατοικία με θέα στον φωταγωγό. Πρέπει να τη διαφημίζεις ως luxury coastal living. Αν προσθέσεις και τη λέξη «Riviera», η τιμή ανεβαίνει αμέσως κατά 40%. Αν βάλεις και το «exclusive», μπορείς να πουλήσεις ακόμη και το ημιυπόγειο ως «ιδιωτικό καταφύγιο αστικής πολυτέλειας». Ο πολίτης μετατρέπεται σε πελάτη στον ίδιο του τον τόπο. Και φυσικά όλα αυτά γίνονται στο όνομα της «ανάπτυξης». Δεν μας λένε ποιος αναπτύσσεται και ποιος εκτοπίζεται. Ποιος κερδίζει και ποιος χάνει. Ποιος αγοράζει θέα στη θάλασσα και ποιος χάνει την πρόσβαση σε αυτήν. Η λεγόμενη αναβάθμιση συχνά σημαίνει ότι ένας τόπος γίνεται ωραιότερος για εκείνον που μπορεί να τον αγοράσει και απρόσιτος για εκείνον που ήδη ζούσε εκεί. Κάπως έτσι γεννιέται και ο νέος κάτοικος της «Ριβιέρας». Δεν πήγε για μπάνιο στη Βούλα. Απόλαυσε coastal lifestyle. Δεν ήπιε καφέ στο Καβούρι. Είχε seaside experience. Δεν αγόρασε ένα υπερτιμημένο διαμέρισμα στο Ελληνικό. Έκανε strategic investment σε παγκόσμιο προορισμό. Η περιοχή, βέβαια, ήταν πάντα όμορφη. Όμως εμείς δεν εμπιστευόμαστε την ομορφιά, αν δεν έχει ξενική ονομασία. Ζουμε την εποχη του νεοπλουτισμου. Ο νεόπλουτος δεν πάει στη θάλασσα. Ζει μια αλλη εμπειρία. Δεν πίνει καφέ. Απολαμβάνει ένα premium coffee moment. Δεν τρώει ψάρι. Δοκιμάζει μια curated seafood experience. Η λέξη «Ριβιέρα» έχει αποκτήσει σχεδόν μεταφυσικές ιδιότητες. Και φυσικα δεν υπάρχει πλέον απλός κάτοικος. Υπάρχει «resident of the Riviera». Άνθρωπος που μέχρι χθες έλεγε «μένω κάτω στη Γλυφάδα» και σήμερα το προφέρει σαν να διαθέτει εξοχικό ανάμεσα σε Κάννες και Σεν Τροπέ. Μπορεί να χρωστάει τρεις δόσεις στην πιστωτική, αλλά όταν περπατά στην παραλιακή αισθάνεται ότι του ανήκει τουλάχιστον μία μαρίνα. Η αλήθεια είναι ότι η Αθήνα δεν χρειάζεται τέτοια κόμπλεξ. Δεν χρειάζεται να μιμηθεί τη Νίκαια, το Μονακό ή τις Κάννες. Μπορεί να σταθεί μια χαρά με το δικό της όνομα, τη δική της θάλασσα και τη δική της φυσιογνωμία. Η αξία της δεν μεγαλώνει επειδή την αποκαλούμε «Ριβιέρα». Μεγαλώνει μόνο η τιμή. Άλλωστε, η πραγματική πολυτέλεια δεν είναι να λες ότι κατοικείς στη Ριβιέρα. Είναι να μπορείς να φτάσεις στη θάλασσα, να απλώσεις την πετσέτα σου και να μη χρειαστείς μικρό καταναλωτικό δάνειο για δύο ξαπλώστρες και έναν καφέ. About Creedence Clearwater Revival: Creedence Clearwater Revival’s 1968 self-titled debut album introduced the world to guitar-playing brothers John and Tom Fogerty, drummer Doug Clifford, and bassist Stu Cook, four young men out of El Cerrito in the San Francisco Bay Area. Σαν σήμερα, στις 17 Αυγούστου 1937, γεννήθηκε στο Μόναχο της Βαυαρίας η Μόνικα Ερτλ, η κομμουνίστρια αγωνίστρια που εκδικήθηκε για τη δολοφονία του Τσε Γκεβάρα. Από τη Γερμανία, η Ερτλ πραγματοποίησε ένα ταξίδι 11000 χιλιομέτρων μέχρι τη Βολιβία, με μοναδικό σκοπό να εκτελέσει τον Roberto Quintanilla Pereira, τον πιό μισητό άνθρωπο για την παγκόσμια αριστερά, αφού εκτός από τη συμμετοχή του στη δολοφονία, ήταν ο άμεσος υπεύθυνος για τη βεβήλωση της σορού του Τσε στη La Higuera: ο Περέιρα ήταν εκείνος που έκοψε τα δύο χέρια του δολοφονημένου κομαντάτε και με αυτή τη βεβήλωση ήταν σαν να υπέγραφε τη θανατική του καταδίκη. Από εκείνη την ημέρα, η Ερτλ, η μαχητρια "Imilla” ορκίστηκε ότι θα έφερνε σε πέρας αυτη την ριψοκίνδυνη επιχείρηση. Έναν όρκο που κατάφερε τελικά να τηρήσει. Την 1η Απριλίου 1971 θα πέσει νεκρή από τις σφαίρες των μισθοφόρων του Ιμπεριαλισμού. Δεν πρόλαβε να προβάλει αντίσταση σε αυτή τη θρασύδειλη ενέδρα, από την οποία προσπάθησε να διαφύγει τρέχοντας. Here are two covers of Tim Hardin's "If I Were A Carpenter." The first is from Bob Seger's fifth studio album, Smokin' O.P.'s, recorded at Pampa's Studios in Detroit, Michigan. Bob played guitar on it while backed by the duo Teegarden & Van Winkle. You might remember their late 1970 Top 40 hit "God, Love And Rock & Roll." David Teegarden, an Okie residing in Tulsa, was on drums and Skip Knape (Van Winkle) was on organ and organ pedal bass. Jim Bruzzese was on tambourine. Bob also did a cover of Leon Russell's "Hummingbird" on that album. David Teegarden was the drummer on Seger's Against The Wind album which won a Grammy for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group. David has a recording studio in Tulsa a few blocks from The Church Studio. Teegarden and Knape also recorded a few songs written by JJ Cale with the JJ Cale trio in 1966 as The Sunday Servants. Those are on this YouTube channel. Then there is Leon Russell's 1974 version of "If I Were A Carpenter," from his album Stop All That Jazz. It was recorded at Pete's Place in Nashville and engineered by studio owner Pete Drake, who also played steel guitar. During the session for it, "Wild Horses" and "Wabash Cannonball" Karl Himmel was on drums, Henry Best was on bass, Linda Hargrove, Edwin Scruggs, JJ Cale and Willie Nelson were guitarists. Cale played the lead electric guitar track. Willie and Leon sang a duet on "Wabash Cannonball," which like "Wild Horses" was not on the Stop All That Jazz album. Both appeared as bonus tracks on the 1990 DCC Compact Classics cd reissue of the album. Leon's cover of the Rolling Stones song "Wild Horses" was also the B-side of Leon's single of "If I Were A Carpenter," which was issued in a controversial picture sleeve that had Leon dressed in a robe standing behind a crucifixion cross. His adapted lyrics say, “If I was Jesus building crosses”. An alternate take of Leon and Willie's duet of "Wabash Cannonball" was used later on Leon's Hank Wilson's Back Volume 2 . On the cover of Leon’s album you see Tulsa’s Queen, Ann Bell, tied up next to Jamie Oldaker as Leon is in the kettle. The other woman tied up further to the right is Marcy Levy.

Ξημερώματα 16 Αυγούστου 1943, το μικρό χωριό Κομμένο της Άρτας, χτισμένο δίπλα στον ποταμό Άραχθο, ζούσε ακόμη στον απόηχο της γιορτής της Παναγίας και ενός χαρούμενου γάμου. Τα τραγούδια και τα γέλια είχαν μόλις σβήσει, όταν η ηρεμία σκίστηκε από τους ήχους μηχανών και πυροβολισμών. Το 98ο Σύνταγμα της διαβόητης Μεραρχίας «Εντελβάις» των ναζί, με επικεφαλής τον ταγματάρχη Φάλνερ, περικύκλωσε το χωριό και άρχισε ένα εννιάωρο όργιο αίματος. Η αφορμή δόθηκε λίγες μέρες νωρίτερα, όταν μικρή ομάδα ανταρτών πέρασε από το χωριό για να συγκεντρώσει τρόφιμα. Αναγνωριστική γερμανική περίπολος τους εντόπισε, και το Κομμένο μπήκε στον κατάλογο των «παραδειγματικών τιμωριών». Στις 5:30 το πρωί, οι στρατιώτες είχαν ήδη κλείσει όλες τις εξόδους. Κανείς δεν θα έφευγε ζωντανός. Ακολούθησε σφαγή πρωτοφανούς αγριότητας. 317 άμαχοι –97 παιδιά, 119 γυναίκες, ηλικιωμένοι, ακόμη και βρέφη– εκτελέστηκαν εν ψυχρώ ή κάηκαν ζωντανοί μέσα στα σπίτια τους. Ανάμεσά τους, οι νεόνυμφοι Θεοχάρης και Αλεξάνδρα, που μόλις είχαν γιορτάσει τον γάμο τους. Ολόκληρες οικογένειες εξαφανίστηκαν. Κάποιοι προσπάθησαν να σωθούν πέφτοντας στον Άραχθο, αλλά οι σφαίρες τους πρόλαβαν. Μέχρι το μεσημέρι, το Κομμένο είχε μετατραπεί σε στάχτη: 300 σπίτια καμένα, περιουσίες λεηλατημένες, η πλατεία γεμάτη πτώματα. Σύμφωνα με μαρτυρίες, οι στρατιώτες γευμάτισαν και ήπιαν πάνω από τα κορμιά των θυμάτων. Η πράξη αυτή δεν είχε στρατιωτικό στόχο – ήταν ωμή τρομοκρατία για να λυγίσει η Αντίσταση. Η Δικαιοσύνη ελάχιστα τιμώρησε τους ενόχους. Ο Φάλνερ σκοτώθηκε λίγο μετά στη Σερβία, ο στρατηγός Χούμπερτ Λαντς καταδικάστηκε στη Δίκη της Νυρεμβέργης σε 12 χρόνια φυλάκιση, αλλά αφέθηκε ελεύθερος το 1951. Κανείς άλλος δεν πλήρωσε. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, photographers for the New York Post were sent scuttling around the city on the hunt to capture newsworthy moments—politics, sports, sometimes art, and, because it was the Post, mostly crime and celebrity. Martha Cooper was one of those photographers. But some of Cooper’s most impactful work emerged from the shots she took in between those assignments, often of abandoned lots, trash and rubble, and scenes of children playing and passing the time outside.
