‼️ Απορρίπτοντας τους ισχυρισμούς περί φιλορωσικής στάσης, η κ. Μέντελ υπενθύμισε τη διετή θητεία της δίπλα στον Ουκρανό πρόεδρο, τη δημοσιογραφική της διαδρομή στους New York Times και τη θητεία της στην Παγκόσμια Τράπεζα, υπογραμμίζοντας ότι βίωσε προσωπικά τη φρίκη των ρωσικών επιθέσεων: ⚠️ «Κανείς δεν μπορεί σοβαρά να με αποκαλεί φιλορωσίδα, εκτός εάν αποδέχεται πρωτόγονες, ασπρόμαυρες αφηγήσεις για τον πόλεμο. Έχω έρθει με έναν και μόνο σκοπό: να συνηγορήσω υπέρ του λαού της Ουκρανίας». ‼️ Η κρίση στην εκπαίδευση προσλαμβάνει διαστάσεις εθνικής καταστροφής, με την ίδια να επισημαίνει ότι ένα στα τρία παιδιά στην Ουκρανία στερείται πλέον πρόσβασης σε κανονική εκπαιδευτική διαδικασία: ⚠️ «Στην πρώτη γραμμή υπάρχουν μαθητές της τετάρτης δημοτικού που δεν ξέρουν να διαβάζουν. Ακούστε με: υπάρχουν δεκάχρονα παιδιά που δεν μπορούν να διαβάσουν. Η υποβάθμιση της εκπαίδευσης και των κοινωνικών δεξιοτήτων στις μελλοντικές γενιές θα έπρεπε να μας τρομάζει όλους. Κάτω από τους πυραύλους, τα drones και τις βόμβες χάνουμε ανθρώπινο κεφάλαιο — όχι μόνο λόγω θανάτου και τραυματισμών, αλλά λόγω της απλής απουσίας οποιασδήποτε δυνατότητας να ζήσουμε». ‼️ Κατά την ίδια, η ευρωπαϊκή χρηματοδότηση κατευθύνεται μονομερώς στην παραγωγή εξοπλισμών και drones εις βάρος της πραγματικής παραγωγικής βάσης, ενώ άσκησε έντονη κριτική στην ευρωπαϊκή ρητορική περί επανεξοπλισμού: ⚠️ «Τι κρύβεται πίσω από την τεράστια εκστρατεία δημοσίων σχέσεων για τη στρατιωτικοποίηση στη Γερμανία; Πώς νιώθουν οι Πολωνοί για την προοπτική να χρειαστεί να πολεμήσουν; Αγοράζουν ακίνητα στην Ισπανία και την Ιταλία. Γιατί οι φιλοπόλεμοι Βρετανοί και Γάλλοι δεν βρίσκονται ακόμη στις τάξεις του ουκρανικού στρατού; Είστε έτοιμοι να πολεμήσουν τα παιδιά σας σε ένα πραγματικό μέτωπο; Δεν πιστεύω ότι είστε. Γι’ αυτόν ακριβώς τον λόγο έχουμε μισές κυρώσεις και το εμπόριο με τη Ρωσία συνεχίζεται». ‼️ Κλείνοντας, η πρώην εκπρόσωπος του Κιέβου αντιπαρέβαλε δύο ιστορικά προηγούμενα, καλώντας τη Δύση να αναλογιστεί ποιον δρόμο επιλέγει για την Ουκρανία: ⚠️ «Θυμηθείτε τη Φινλανδία. Ποιος θα έλεγε σήμερα ότι η Φινλανδία έχασε τον πόλεμό της; Έχασε μερικές μάχες — αλλά κέρδισε το έθνος της και το μέλλον της. Η Ουκρανία μπορεί να γίνει μια άλλη Φινλανδία. The album’s recording process was notoriously complex and prolonged, beginning in May 1968. However, the majority of the sessions took place between April and July 1969. During this period, five different producers were credited, each contributing to the unique sound of the album. These included Barrett himself, Peter Jenner (who worked on the 1968 sessions), Malcolm Jones (who produced the early to mid-1969 sessions), and two of Barrett’s former Pink Floyd bandmates, David Gilmour and Roger Waters, who helped during the mid-1969 sessions. The album also featured a number of guest musicians, including Willie Wilson, who had previously played with David Gilmour in Jokers Wild, as well as several members of the progressive rock group Soft Machine. These collaborations helped create the album’s distinct and often experimental sound, which ranged from whimsical and melodic to dark and fragmented, reflecting Barrett’s mental state during this period. The Madcap Laughs was finally released on January 2, 1970, by Harvest Records in the UK. The album received mixed critical reviews upon its release but has since been recognized as a significant work in the history of psychedelic rock and as a cornerstone of Barrett’s legacy as a solo artist.
