The destruction of Gaza is the destruction of the whole world. The Israeli government, with the eager assistance of the United States, is laying the groundwork for for how we respond to genocide and atrocities in the 21st century. The total and expanding devastation in Gaza is a result of Zionism—the racist colonial movement that led to the establishment of Israel, an apartheid state built on land stolen from massacred and forcibly exiled Palestinians. And just as the Nakba—the forcible expulsion of Palestinians from their homes in 1948—set a precedent for the state of Israel to exist on Palestinian land at the expense of Palestinian lives, the destruction of Gaza has helped set the stage for what we as people and governments will continue to allow to be done to other human beings. Nearly 3 years of genocide is not carried out in a vaccuum, nor is it inevitable. It is made possible through intentional choices by the US and Israeli governments. And as we continue to struggle against Israeli genocide, we are witnessing the next predictable outcome of permitting this brazen violence — it expands and harms everyone. The destruction of Gaza is one more destruction of our collective humanity. We are all connected. And we will continue to do everything we can to end this calamity. All of our lives depend on it. . On This Day in 1970, Jimi Hendrix Was Laid to Rest After His Final Journey Home On October 1, 1970, Jimi Hendrix was buried near his hometown of Seattle, thirteen days after his death in London. The delay tells an important part of the story. Hendrix died suddenly on September 18 at the age of 27, and his death was followed by a post-mortem examination and an official British inquest. His remains then had to be returned from England to the United States before his family could finally hold the funeral. The private service took place at Dunlap Baptist Church in Seattle. Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding were there, along with Buddy Miles, Miles Davis, Johnny Winter, Eddie Kramer and members of Hendrix’s family and circle of friends. Afterward, Hendrix was taken to Greenwood Cemetery in Renton, Washington, where his mother Lucille had been buried years earlier. Those gathered sang “When the Saints Go Marching In” as his coffin was lowered. A private gathering followed at Seattle Center, where several of the musicians who had come to say goodbye played together. Thirteen days after his death thousands of miles away in London, Jimi Hendrix had finally come home. Rock Legends
From my early teenage years, Kraftwerk has been a source of inspiration and pure musical joy for me. That inspiration led me to create this track, “My Kraftwerk World” — a respectful tribute to the electronic sound, rhythm, and futuristic atmosphere that have meant so much to me over the years.
