JULY 31 1976 Blue Oyster Cult released their 7th single "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" from the album Agents of Fortune. "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" was written and sung by Blue Öyster Cult's lead guitarist, Donald Roeser, also known as Buck Dharma. It was rumored to be about suicide, but it actually deals with the inevitability of death and the belief that we should not fear it. When Dharma wrote it, he was thinking about what would happen if he died at a young age and if he would be reunited with loved ones in the afterlife. Dharma was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat, which got him thinking about his mortality and inspired the song. "I thought I was going to maybe not live that long," he said in a interview. "I had been diagnosed with a heart condition, and your mind starts running away with you - especially when you're young-ish. So, that's why I wrote the story. It's imagining you can survive death in terms of your spirit. Your spirit will prevail." Buck Dharma described this as "a love song where the love transcends the actual physical existence of the partners." He was taken aback when he learned that many listeners heard it as a song encouraging suicide; it advocates courage in the face of death but in no way suggests we should actively bring it about. In his Songfacts interview, he explained: "It's not about suicide, although people kind of get that from the Romeo and Juliet reference. But BÖC's lyrics have always been... not obtuse, but deep. They're certainly open to interpretation, and everybody seems to have their own thoughts about what stuff means. We purposely let people do that - draw their own conclusions from the lyric." ΠΕΦΤΕΙ ΒΑΡΥ ΣΚΟΤΑΔΙ ΜΕΛΙΝΑ. Σήμερα δεν είναι μια συνηθισμένη μέρα. Σήμερα η συλλογική μας μνήμη μπαίνει στο αρχείο. Σβήνει. Σήμερα η πολιτιστική μας κληρονομιά, αυτό που μας κράτησε όρθιους για αιώνες, αποκτά ταμπέλα, κοστολογείται και βγαίνει στο σφυρί. Σήμερα ο Παρθενώνας, ο Ιερός Βράχος, το σύμβολο του πολιτισμού ολόκληρου του κόσμου, παύει να είναι σύμβολο και γίνεται προϊόν. Παραδίδεται σε «ιδιοκτήτες», σε διαχειριστές και μεσάζοντες για να λειτουργήσει ως ντεκόρ για φιέστες, επιδείξεις μόδας και ιδιωτικές δεξιώσεις. Τελικά, σε τούτα εδώ τα μάρμαρα η κακιά σκουριά πιάνει. Πιάνει όταν αυτοί που ορκίστηκαν να τα προστατεύσουν είναι οι ίδιοι που τα εμπορεύονται. Πιάνει όταν τον τόπο κυβερνά η πιο ξεπουλημένη και διεφθαρμένη κλίκα που πέρασε ποτέ. Και το πιο βαρύ σκοτάδι δεν είναι αυτό που πέφτει πάνω στα μάρμαρα. Είναι αυτό που έχει πέσει πάνω μας. Γιατί ο λαός κοιμάται. Παρακολουθεί μουδιασμένος και απαθής.. Έχει δώσει το ελεύθερο, έχει δώσει σιωπηλή συναίνεση και η σιωπή μας έχει γίνει συνενοχή.. Θα τρίζουν τα κόκκαλα της Μελίνας. Tι ήταν ο Κώμος Λεπτομέρεια τελετουργικής σκηνής κώμου ζωγραφισμένης σε κρατήρα, που απεικονίζει μια γυναίκα να χορεύει ανάμεσα σε δύο νέους ως μέρος μιας πομπής. Ο όρος κώμος αναφέρεται σε μια εορταστική πομπή στην αρχαία Ελλάδα, κατά την οποία νέοι άνδρες κινούνταν στην πόλη μετά από ένα συμπόσιο, συνοδευόμενοι από τραγούδι και τον ήχο αυλών. Από τον 6ο αιώνα π.Χ. και μετά, συνδέθηκε με τον Διόνυσο και ενσωματώθηκε στις Διονυσιακές εορτές, όπου αντιπροσώπευε τον θίασο (τελετουργική ακολουθία) του Βάκχου. Ο κώμος ήταν ένα από τα αρχικά στοιχεία της ελληνικής κωμωδίας, η οποία μάλιστα πήρε το όνομά της από αυτόν. Κερύνεια Κερύνεια Όταν η Μελίνα επισκέφτηκε την Αγία Σοφία και άφησε άφωνους τους Τούρκους!! Ως Υπουργός Πολιτισμού επισκέπτεται την Πόλη. Πάει στην ΑΓΙΑ ΣΟΦΙΑ συνοδευόμενη από τον Τούρκο ομόλογό της και υπηρεσιακούς παράγοντες του Υπουργείου. Μια στιγμή γυρίζει προς έναν Διευθυντή του Υπουργείου και του λέει: -Νίκο, να ψάλλουμε το ΤΗ ΥΠΕΡΜΑΧΩι!.. –Κυρία Υπουργέ, δεν μπορούμε, και μάλιστα μπροστά στα… μάτια του ομολόγου σας. Δεν γίνεται! Και τότε η μεγάλη Ελληνίδα στέκεται προσοχή κι αρχίζει μόνη της να ψάλλει: ΤΗ ΥΠΕΡΜΑΧΩ ΣΤΡΑΤΗΓΩ ΤΑ ΝΙΚΗΤΗΡΙΑ… Το τελείωσε με δάκρυα, χωρίς κανείς να τολμήσει να τη σταματήσει. Αιωνία της η Μνήμη.

Δημήτρης Λέντζος ποιητής, στιχουργός και πεζογράφος. ΒΑΔΙΖΑ Βάδιζα ώρες πολλές στη μεγάλη πορεία διαμαρτυρίας με τα νέα συνθήματα και τα παλιά μανιφέστα οι σημαίες και τα πανό μου ήταν άγνωστα από τα μεγάφωνα ακούγονταν η φωνή του εκφωνητή που έλεγε με στεγνή φωνή για το Μέγα πλήθος και πάθος της διαδήλωσης σε λίγο η πορεία κατέληξε στη προκυμαία στο ανατολικό λιμάνι με τις τριήρεις σε λίγο είπανε πως θα φυσήξει ούριος αγέρας ωστόσο εγώ μόλις διαπίστωσα ότι σε αυτή την πορεία ήμουν εντελώς μόνος χωρίς πίσω μου και εμπρός μου να βαδίζει κανένας και οι φωνές ήταν φωνές παλαιών γυρολόγων που διαφήμιζαν φτηνές πανοπλίες αιχμάλωτων αγαλμάτων.
