Native American Pride Native News Today marks the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Little Bighorn. It’s where Lakota, Cheyenne and Arapaho coalition forces defeated the 7th Cavalry, commanded by General George Custer. Whitewashed U.S. history says Custer’s men fought bravely but Native eyewitness accounts say many of Custer’s men cowardly committed suicide by shooting themselves. Northern Cheyenne warrior Wooden Leg, who fought at Little Bighorn gave his firsthand account: “The white men went crazy. Instead of shooting us, they turned their guns upon themselves. Almost before we could get to them, every one of them was dead. They killed themselves.” – Wooden Leg
