On this day in 1981, the Roxy Music single “Jealous Guy” debuted on the Australian charts at #74 (March 30) Following John Lennon's murder in 1980, Roxy Music added a version of his song “Jealous Guy” to their set while touring in Germany, which they recorded and released in February 1981. It went all the way to #1 in Australia, and became Roxy Music’s only UK #1 hit in March 1981 as well, topping the UK Singles Chart for two weeks. It also went to #3 in Ireland, #4 in New Zealand and Switzerland, #5 in Belgium, #6 in Austria and Norway, #7 in the Netherlands, and #9 in France. "Jealous Guy" is one of the most commonly recorded John Lennon songs, with at least 92 cover versions. Lennon began writing the song in 1968, when, as "Child of Nature", it was among the many songs demoed by the Beatles before they recorded their self-titled double album (aka the "White Album").
